tennis report

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen
Just to confirm that Brian banked £120.00 from our tennis fun and frolics last Friday.
We had 13 players during the morning - Joe had a dodgy knee so only played the first two rounds, Richard arrived a little later than the rest of us but that was good timing! He took up the reigns with a flourish.
Our numbers included several Members who don't usually come along on Friday mornings and 2 squash players! (We don't count Josh as a squash player any more....)
In spite of the very windy weather, we enjoyed playing in the glorious sunshine ??
The spread, afterwards, was magnificent! Cakes as far as the eye could see - some, mouth-wateringly, home-made. Sitting outside in groups of 6, our Company included two guest visitors, Veronica Chambers (Richard's wife) and Mike Sabel (88!) who is on the bench at the moment, following a fall earlier this year, when he broke his arm. Thank you for coming along and playing the "chase the paper plate" game provided by the blustery conditions.
We took it in turns to enter the pavilion to collect tea or coffee and comestibles.
A collection was taken as Brian Mackness (Friday regular and our connection to NGS) told us all a little of the Society who open their beautiful gardens to the public each year to raise funds for several charities, and the work those charities do.
And the winner was ......
Josh Wells with 12 points.
He, and the 2 equal runners-up with 11 points each - Mark Laughton and Lynn Howard- took home a tube of the new-that-morning tennis balls used during the "tournament".
A big THANK YOU to all those who didn't make it to the rostrum. Without them, the event would not have been as competitive or as enjoyable.
A good time was had by all, with no washing up, as Brian took everything home to throw into the dishwasher. Hurrah!
We hope to hold our usual Macmillan morning in December, as we did last year. Watch this space.
TTFN Jane
