Devon Leagues

Hi

The Devon league mixed matches start this year in mid September, slightly earlier than normal owing to a change in the league format. This year it has been decided to split each division into 2 smaller divisions, resulting in a total of 8 squash leagues of 5 teams and 3 racketball leagues of 6 teams.

Although there are fewer teams in each league, each team will play home & away before Christmas, after Christmas the leagues will be updated inline with promotion and relegation (2 up, 2 down) and another full round of fixtures played. Essentially there are now 2 seasons per year.

The intention of this change is to mix teams around the leagues and move away from what many see as a stale existing format, and to hopefully bridge the gap between the existing Premier Division and the other leagues.

In summary nothing really changes in terms of what teams captains must do, just find the fixtures online at www.ninenil.com. In relation to reserves, the rules remain the same, can play up twice before being team tied, except for everything is reset at Christmas. Ladies leagues remain unaltered

For Newton Abbot this year we have 5 mixed squash teams and 2 mixed racketball teams. The Ladies have 1 squash and 1 racketball team. It is great to be able to add teams to the leagues where the general movement is reducing teams - thanks to everyone at the club willing to play and represent the club.

For anyone reading this not associated to any team and would like to get involved in matches this coming season please let me know - dan_gough14@yahoo.co.uk. Whilst I can suggest which teams are looking for players and hopefully get you into a squad, I cannot tell teams who to pick so it will be up to those players to get involved and challenge the squad. All positive.

As always balls will be provided, lights and courts are covered by the club, for home matches home players are responsible for covering their opponents food £6 (if this can be paid to Louise as early as possible, she will appreciate it) and 2x drinks maximum.

Have a great season

Dan
